At Wimboldsley Community Primary school we value and praise reading at home. Our families were recently treated to an early reading and phonics pack to support home learning. We chose to include a whiteboard and pen, and information about the Little Wandle phonics programme including ‘Grow the code’ and Phase 2 and 3 grapheme mats. We also included an all-important hot chocolate sachet!
There is no greater feeling than curling up with your favourite people, a good book, and a warm cup of cocoa. Our families have sent lots of wonderful feedback. Every week in school we award star reader badges to recognise those children who read regularly at home. Reading is also highlighted and praised in our half-termly ‘Reading Roundup’ newsletter, which provides the latest reading and phonics news, including staff and pupil-recommended reads and reading strategies.
