Brilliant book corners
Brilliant book corners offer children the chance to discover new texts, explore old favourites and chat about what they are reading. Alongside your wider Reading for Pleasure pedagogy and practice, these spaces can support a rich reading culture and can encourage all children to love reading. As the DfE’s Reading Framework describes, a book corner should be a ‘place for children to browse the best books, revisit the ones that the teacher has read to them, and borrow books to read or retell at home.’
We invited members to share their brilliant book corners with us on Twitter and Instagram and we were blown away with the responses. It was fantastic to see lots of spaces with the features that we know make a difference. This includes; forward facing books, carefully curated selections of texts, a diversity of genres and texts where children can themselves and others reflected.
